Prof Gatrad TV Interview on Health at Hajj

Many aspects of looking after oneself are discussed – preparation, what needs to be known during Hajj and post Haj health care.

Having assumed the noble art of a physician we should see before us a path of service and dedication to humanity. We should be aware of the immense privileges and responsibilities that fortune has bestowed on us. Far from being overawed at this task we should accept this challenge with a clear mind, a nimble hand and a stout heart. In homage to our mentors we should exercise our profession with all the skill and compassion of which we are capable. As they have taught us and shown by the wisdom of their precepts, so shall our healing hands be guided by an acute awareness of life’s infinite mystery. However there will be times of failure when we cannot heal or save.We should see ourselves as instruments, albeit trained ones for the alleviation of suffering and the restoration of good health and happiness. In whatever sphere we find ourselves with people of diverse races and creeds,perhaps in situations of peril or disaster, may we not falter. With this in mind we should hope to continue to practice our calling as
a devotion rather than an ambition. (a quote modified as food for thought for doctors)
